Complementary therapies could be the solution to your pet’s pain or chronic illness

Western medicine has certainly cemented its place in treating a variety of both severe and minor medical conditions, but have you ever wondered whether there is an alternative to endless drugs and tablets?

Here at Riverside Vets we are proud to offer a range of alternative therapies to help your pet. Whether they have a chronic condition that doesn’t respond well to conventional medicine, suffer undesirable side effects to their current medication, or you’d simply rather they had a more natural course of treatment, we could have the answer.

Homeopathy

Homeopathy is based on the principle that ‘like cures like’, and is comprised of medicines created from natural plant and mineral extracts. These medicines are made up of smaller elements of substances that would normally trigger the onset of particular illnesses, and are designed to stimulate the body’s natural defences.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is an ancient healing therapy that has been used in Eastern medicine for thousands of years. It involves inserting very fine needles into particular acupressure points on the body to tap into energy systems and stimulate natural healing and pain relief.

Laser therapy

Laser therapy is an alternative method of treating a variety of chronic and acute conditions, including areas of swelling and inflammation. A laser beam focused at particular areas on the pet’s body sends light energy to the affected cells where it stimulates the cells to regenerate themselves, reducing areas of swelling and pain. This treatment is not painful or uncomfortable; many pets find the warmth of the laser soothing and any anxieties are quickly dissipated.

Your vet will recommend any of the above treatments for your pet if they feel it would be a beneficial course of action for their situation.
